GDYNIA, POLAND-(15-7-2003) The last preparations to the Idea Gdynia Sailing Days - World Cup has
already started. Every day, more and more competitors from abroad are
entering the regatta in Gdynia. That is why a special press conference was
held in Gdynia on July 9th. There were journalists present not only from the
local but also from the other Polish media.
- We wish the regatta to be attended by the majority of leaders in the
sailing world. What attracts them the most is very high prize money. This
year we managed to collect 50 000 euros for the awards. The prize is even
higher than the one at the prestigious SPA Regatta in Holland - said Jerzy
Wieczorek, president of the Race Sailing Association. The effects are
already visible. There are 28 teams that have entered the regatta so far.
They are mainly from countries like the Czech Republic, Lithuania, the USA,
Ukraine, and Hungary. Among the competitors there is Maxim Oberenko, the
present World Cup champion in the Mistral class. On the entering list for
470-women class there are also Erin Maxwell and Jen Morgan from the USA. -
Our event is a chance to join talented sailors both from the East and the
West together - said Andrzej Mielicki, director of the regatta - Idea Gdynia
Sailing Days takes place in the middle of Europe and it is already the
greatest sailing event in this area.
2. Worldwide relations
Relations on Idea Gdynia Sailing Days World Cup Series will be available
abroad. The event will be also strongly supported by national Polish media.
The regatta has been taken under the auspices of leading Polish media: TVP,
RMF FM radio, `Rzeczpospolita` newspaper, Wirtualna Polska (Polish portal)
and `Zagle` a monthly magazine.
It is moreover the first time for the regatta to be broadcast by Eurosport,
which has joined our national media supporters this year. The twelve-minute
report is to be broadcast in the Sailing World programme one week after the
event in Gdynia has finished. The announcements of the races and the results
will be available in a written form on the Eurosportnews. The reports on the
regatta are going to be broadcast on Sailing Channel as well.
3. Advertising campaign
Since the middle of July an advertising campaign is going to be started.
There are 200 posters to be displayed on the advertising hoardings of the
Cityboard Media (the main sponsor of IGSD). They will be displayed in the
largest towns of Poland: Warsaw, Krakow, Tri-City, Poznan and Szczecin. In
the end of the July you can also hear the 30-second spots on the RMF FM
